OpenBuildings™ Station Designer Help

To place multiple bar joists

  1. Select (Place Bar Joist).

The Bar Joist Modeling dialog appears.

  2. On the Bar Joist Modeling dialog, select Mode > Place Multiple.
  3. Select first supporting member.
Tip: The first supporting member selected has significance when the supports are not parallel to one another. The Perpendicular to option places the bar joists perpendicular to the first support member. When Perpendicular to is off, the shortest distance between the members determines the bar joists' orientation.
  4. Select second supporting member.

The Bar Joist Placement Program dialog appears with a bar joist series and configuration already selected. The series selected is specific to the span or bearing distance.

Note: A group of settings labeled Multiple Copies appears on the Bar Joist Placement Program dialog.
CAUTION: A series and a span must be selected to enable Place.
  5. Select a Place by option and enter a Spacing value. Set the Perpendicular to option and determine if end members are required.
Note: The End Members option adds bar joists to the ends of the support members in addition to the placement and spacing settings.
  6. Complete the settings in the End Details tabs.
Note: When the bar joists are placed, they do not have any analytical properties.
  7. Click Place.

    The bar joist is placed.

CAUTION: Be aware that this tool is only an aid in modeling the joist. It is not intended to be a design tool for selecting the appropriate joist. Recommended values are approximations.
